New York, NYJews For Racial & Economic Justice (JFREJ) issued the following statement in response to Representatives Jerry Nadler and Dan Goldman’s call for a temporary ceasefire:

Every day for over four months, New Yorkers have taken to the streets, protested outside of congressional offices, made calls, risked arrest, and confronted our elected officials directly to demand that they support an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
Representatives Nadler and Goldman’s call for a temporary ceasefire is a clear sign that this unrelenting pressure from a multiracial, multifaith, multigenerational coalition of New Yorkers has made it impossible for them to maintain their unabashed pro-war position.
It is appalling that it has taken almost five months and the death of over 30,000 Palestinians for Reps. Goldman and Nadler to call for even a temporary ceasefire. Every day, we see the unspeakable horror Israel is inflicting on Palestinians. Every day, we see the devastation of people whose loved ones are missing, held captive, displaced, injured, starving, dead.
We must keep going because a temporary ceasefire is far from enough; we demand our elected officials join us in calling for a permanent ceasefire, the release of all hostages – everyone for everyone – and an end to occupation and apartheid. We know this is possible because we know organizing works.
We will continue to organize, drawing inspiration from activists across the globe who exemplify the resistance, courage, solidarity, and humanity needed to build a just future for all — Palestinians and Israelis alike. May the Jewish values that guide us to take action as Jews for Ceasefire move Reps. Goldman and Nadler, our fellow Jewish New Yorkers, to join us in this call.
