New York, NY –  Following a sweep of primary Election Day victories, including Eli Northrup’s win in New York’s 69th Assembly District, and Brad Lander’s win in New York’s 10th Congressional District, Audrey Sasson, Executive Director of Jews For Racial & Economic Justice, released the following statement on behalf of the organization:

“We are thrilled to have helped propel two JFREJ members into office yesterday. Electing Brad Lander and Eli Northrup was JFREJ’s top priority this election cycle. Thanks to the hard work of the hundreds of JFREJers who got out the vote for them, in 2027, we’ll be sending Brad to Congress and Eli to the State Assembly, along with five new legislators – all of whom are committed to taxing the rich for care.

These races were about more than a single seat in Congress or a single seat in the Assembly. Both of these races were fights for the future of the Jewish community, between an out-of-touch establishment and a Jewish Left with a real vision for our community that is grounded in human rights and dignity for all. The Jewish Left has decisively won, and we’re extremely proud of the role we played in last night’s sweeping victory for the broader New York Left.”

In the 2026 election cycle, JFREJ endorsed eighteen candidates in total, eight of them insurgent challengers and ten of them incumbents. In addition to Brad Lander, Eli Northrup, and all ten incumbents, insurgent candidates Aber Kawas, David Orkin, Brian Romero, Eon Huntley, and Jessica González-Rojas, also emerged from their primary races victorious.

Founded in 1990, Jews For Racial & Economic Justice (JFREJ) has been the leading progressive Jewish voice in New York City for 36 years. JFREJ members launched an electoral arm under the name The Jewish Vote in 2018, the inaugural campaign of which played a key role in defeating the Independent Democratic Caucus by endorsing and campaigning for insurgent candidates Zellnor Myrie, Robert Jackson, Jessica Ramos, and Alessandra Biaggi, as well as Julia Salazar. In the years since, thousands of JFREJ members have knocked doors and phone banked to help elect progressives such as Jumaane Williams, Shahana Hanif, Alexa Avilés, Crystal Hudson, Lincoln Restler, Chi Ossé, Tiffany Cabán, Jennifer Gutiérrez, Sandy Nurse, and many others.

In 2020, JFREJ backed Zohran Mamdani’s successful insurgent State Assembly campaign, and helped Jamaal Bowman defeat 16-term incumbent Eliot Engel in NY-16. In 2025 JFREJ was a core member of the coalition that elected Zohran Mamdani mayor, leading an impressive, months-long grassroots voter engagement effort reaching Jewish New Yorkers in all five boroughs, knocking 10,000 doors and making 80,000 phone calls to help elect Mayor Mamdani.
