Jews for Racial and Economic Justice Condemns Islamophobic Attacks on Mamdani
NEW YORK – Jews for Racial and Economic Justice (JFREJ) condemned the hateful Islamophobic attacks on Zohran Mamdani this week, including insinuations that Mamdani would cheer on another 9/11. The statement below can be attributed to JFREJ Executive Director Audrey Sasson:
“We condemn the flood of racist and Islamophobic attacks this week on Zohran Mamdani by failed governor Andrew Cuomo, as well as Mayor Adams, Curtis Sliwa, and their supporters. We call on our City and State political leaders and organizations to condemn and forcefully reject these smears.
These vicious attacks actively endanger Muslim, Arab, and South Asian New Yorkers, who have faced decades of Islamophobic harassment, surveillance and repression.
New Yorkers – including Jews – are all less safe when white Christian nationalism is normalized. These attacks are particularly egregious as New Yorkers face escalating violence and threats from federal forces coming for all our communities.
We reject these increasingly desperate attempts to stoke fear and division. New Yorkers, including many New York Jews, are embracing a powerful movement for a thriving diverse city of collective safety. These racist tactics failed during the primary, and they will fail again on November 4th. We are in unbreakable solidarity with Muslim New Yorkers and all our neighbors.”
