Following the news that the NYPD officer who shot and killed Win Rozario was allowed to retire, and last night’s footage of NYPD officers brutalizing New Yorkers protesting ICE terror, we urge Mayor Mamdani to do more to protect New Yorkers from state violence of all kinds.

We appreciate the mayor’s condemnation of ICE’s actions, and his swift movement to show up on the ground. He must move swiftly again now: The mayor and city council must pass Intros 1077 & 1078 and Intro 209 to protect New Yorkers from ICE, and to stop any and all collaboration between the NYPD and this rogue agency. The mayor and council must also proactively work to end police violence against protestors by passing the CURB Act and disbanding the SRG.

ICE has no place in our city. The NYPD has no business brutalizing or killing New Yorkers.

We all deserve to live free from state violence.
