As we continue to organize in the face of unfathomable starvation and bombing in Gaza, this Shavuot, we will deepen our commitment to "Revealing Liberation: The Torah of Solidarity.”
For Shavuot 5785, join Rabbis for Ceasefire, JFREJ, and many more for our second annual Global Tikkun Leyl, an all-day virtual teach-in. Through our 26 hours of learning together, we will demonstrate the global Jewish solidarity with Palestine, deepen relationships across continents, and develop shared analyses, songs, interpretations of texts, and beyond to illuminate our path to liberation.
Drop in for an hour or stay the whole night - no previous Torah study experience required - all are welcome!
The program begins on June 1st at 11:00AM NYC time and ends on June 2nd at 1:00PM NYC time. Wherever you are in the world, we hope you'll join us!
JFREJ member Avi Fox-Rosen will be performing at the teach-in at NOON ET on Sunday, information below:
Di rayze aheym / The journey home is a nine-part poem written by Irena Klepfisz in the early 1980s. It’s a powerful exploration of legacy, displacement, diaspora, queerness, feminism, secular Jewish identity, and memory. In 2025 Avi Fox-Rosen set the poem to music creating a 9 song cycle. The adaptation bridges traditional Yiddish musical forms with contemporary songwriting, creating a dialogue between past and present to imagine a vibrant future right here, in the place(s) where we live.
In this zoom concert featured as part of the Rabbis for Ceasefire Shavuot teach in, Avi will be joined by violinist Alicia Svigals, one of the best klezmer fiddlers currently making music, and a long time friend and collaborator of Irena’s. They'll be performing live from Alicia's home in the Hudson Valley.
