JFREJ Celebrates Zohran Mamdani Election Win

NEW YORK - In response to Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the 2025 New York City mayoral election, Jews for Racial and Economic Justice released the following statement from Executive Director Audrey Sasson:

“Tonight, New York chose hope over fear, solidarity over division. Tens of thousands of Jewish New Yorkers were part of making that historic choice.

We organized with and for Zohran Mamdani because we believe in a different vision for this city - one where we stand hand-in-hand with our neighbors and build together toward the shared future we deserve, rather than retreating in isolation. A city where all who call New York home  can afford to live, thrive and feel welcome - because that’s a city that's good for all of us.

Hundreds of JFREJ volunteers made this victory possible, knocking more than 10,000 doors and making over 80,000 calls across Jewish neighborhoods in New York. We organized for Zohran across generations and denominations with our whole hearts. Not despite our Jewish values, but because of them.

This victory represents something far greater than one candidate or one election. It shows what becomes possible when Jewish voters refuse to accept fear as the price of safety, when we choose solidarity over isolation, when we insist that justice for some requires justice for all.

The real work begins now: setting Mamdani up for success and building a New York where all our communities can flourish.

Tonight we celebrate. Tomorrow, we make it real. The astonishing coalition we’ve built is just getting started.”
