Make the Road New York has been building power in immigrant and working-class communities in New York City and its suburbs since 1998. They are a powerhouse grassroots organization that both meets the day-in-and-day-out needs of their members, regardless of immigration status, race, or gender identity, and works to transform the systems and power structures that give rise to those needs.

We honor them in particular for their indisputable contributions to the victories of this year. Their vision, decades of organizing, and sustained leadership helped secure the most progressive rent laws in decades, beat back Amazon’s HQ2 in Queens, won in-state tuition for undocumented young people, and won the right to obtain a driver’s license in NY, regardless of immigration status.

Make the Road’s 23,000+ took bold leadership to secure these victories while also fighting to protect and defend themselves against the most viciously anti-immigrant federal government we have seen in our lifetimes.

The Statue of Liberty and the words of Emma Lazarus etched at her feet are a daily reminder to New Yorkers of the bravery and bold leadership of our immigrant ancestors and our immigrant neighbors. Make the Road and its members serve as a leading light to all of us as we fight together for dignity and justice for all New Yorkers.

We are thrilled to honor their contributions to our city, state and movement with our Emma Lazarus Leading Light Award!

Help make the Mazals a success by joining the Host Committee, purchasing an ad, or buying a ticket today. We look forward to celebrating with you on December 19th!
