Position Description

JFREJ is seeking a full-time leadership development organizer to develop and implement the big picture of leadership development, including all aspects of political education and training, across the organization. This organizer will design and carry out a plan with members for leadership development for the full membership, support campaign and caucus leaders to implement leadership development plans within their teams, and support leaders in the Role Network, where members train in and play skill-based roles across JFREJ.

This is a mid-level role for someone with demonstrated experience in organizing and leadership development, with an appetite for the big picture and excitement about creating and sustaining a vision for leadership development at JFREJ. The ideal candidates will have a proven ability to get things done and coordinate among interdependent and complex teams and programs. The person in this role will be interested in eventually managing and supporting a community organizer.

Job Responsibilities

The Leadership Development Organizer will be responsible for the following:

  • Designing and implementing a robust plan for leadership development of ranging levels and for varying participants that includes political education and training across the full organization, campaigns, caucuses, neighborhood groups, and role networks;
  • Building and supporting a team of members who will help design and carry out that plan;
  • Supporting leaders in the Role Network to articulate and achieve their goals;
  • Supervising one community organizer and a small cohort of leaders receiving more time-intensive development.

Jews For Racial & Economic Justice seeks candidates who are results-oriented, excel at building relationships, and have demonstrated success managing complicated projects. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Alignment with JFREJ’s mission and values;
  • A demonstrated commitment to meeting (and exceeding) high standards and a history of getting things done even in the face of obstacles;
  • 3-5 years of experience in base-building and leadership development as a professional or volunteer community organizer;
  • Experience with training and teaching and with curriculum or curriculum-like development;
  • Experience with using or a strong willingness to learn how to use EveryAction and Slack,;
  • A sense of humor and ability to roll with the punches in an ever-shifting political and movement landscape;
  • Commitment to, and experience with, collaborative team structures and work environments.


Salary and Benefits: The salary for this position is $65,000-$70,000 with an extremely competitive benefits package and generous personnel policies including: 100% employer sponsored premiums for healthcare, employer 401(k) contribution, flexible work schedule, 18 paid holidays per year, 15 vacation days in first year and 20 in following years, 12 sick and safety leave days, family leave benefits that exceed NYS requirements, and sabbatical leave every 5 years. We are currently working remotely due to COVID-19. This person would need to be residing in NYC by the Fall of 2022.
