We are seeking a full-time community organizer to grow our base and increase active participation among our members in our campaigns and programs.

Position Description

JFREJ is seeking a full-time community organizer to grow our base and increase active participation among our members in our campaigns and programs. This organizer would play a unique role in the organizing team, focusing not on a single campaign, but on supporting members with a variety of interests to move into roles across the organization. The organizer would also support the newly forming Role Network to launch in late 2021, a home base in the organization that will enable members to train in and play skill-based roles across JFREJ.

Job Responsibilities

The Community Organizer will be responsible for the following:

  • Holding regular phone banks and text banks to reach thousands of members and invite them to upcoming events and organizing opportunities.

  • Training members to hold phone and text banks for particular campaigns and projects.

  • Supporting and developing role network coordinators, and troubleshoot opportunities and challenges that arise.

  • Regular 1:1 meetings with members

  • Training members to hold 1:1s.

  • Experimenting with new and creative forms of outreach to identify and recruit new members and leaders.

  • Alignment with JFREJ’s mission and values;

  • A demonstrated commitment to meeting (and exceeding) high standards and a history of getting things done even in the face of obstacles;

  • Proven success in relationship-building, base-building, & developing leaders as a professional or volunteer community organizer;

  • Experience with training or teaching, or a strong interest in developing that experience;

  • Experience with using or a strong willingness to learn how to use EveryAction and Slack, or a similar database/CRM or platform;

  • A sense of humor and ability to roll with the punches in an ever-shifting political and movement landscape;

  • Commitment to, and experience with, collaborative team structures and work environments.

Salary and Benefits: The salary for this position is $60,000 with an extremely competitive benefit package and generous personnel policies including: 100% employee sponsored premiums for healthcare and additional healthcare reimbursement account, employer 401(k) match, flexible work schedule, 15 holidays a year, 15 vacation days in first year with 12 sick days, family leave benefits that far exceed NYS requirements, and sabbatical leave.
