Fighting Islamophobia in NYC

Jews Against Islamophobia (JAI) is a coalition of Jews for Racial and Economic Justice, Jewish Voice for Peace-NY, Jews Say No!, and individuals committed to challenging anti-Muslim bigotry and anti-Arab racism. We formed in immediate response to the Islamophobic right-wing opposition to the building of Park51/Cordoba House, the proposed lower Manhattan mosque and Islamic center. We devloped a network for the purposes of making our voices heard and offering a Jewish voice that is part of the larger community effort(s) to challenge Islamophobia and anti-Arab racism. We are committed to challenging Jewish institutions and organizations that promote Islamophobia through their words or action. We respond to other forms of Islamophobia and anti-Arab racism as they arise and are also proactive in speaking out about the issues and making the connections as they need to be made. - Caring Across Generations New York Care Congress
  Since July, JFREJ has been engaged in on-the-ground organizing as part of the visionary Caring Across Generations Campaign--a bold new national movement to transform long-term care in the U.S. and to ensure quality care and a dignified quality of life for all of us. As part of this movement, JFREJ and Domestic Workers United are joining a growing coalition of organizations and individuals who have a stake in changing the way we care. Together, we will will be holding a New York Care Congress on June 3rd. This Congress, like others that have already taken place around the country, will be a town-hall dialogue to bring together everyday people from across the care spectrum--domestic and homecare workers, seniors, disabled people, immigrants, workers, parents, young people, and YOU!
  
  The New York Care Congress will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2012. The day will include:
  
  • Sharing care stories: sharing testimonies and vision for change between seniors, people with disabilities, family caregivers, home care workers, domestic workers, children and families of both care workers and folks who receive
  care
  • Giving voice to change: taking action together on important state and local campaigns
  • Growing the movement at home: sharing the vision and organizing strategy to transform care in the U.S. as well as within New York City and State.
