Victory!

On June 3, 2003 Domestic Workers United and JFREJ scored a historic victory with the passage of Intro 96, the Domestic Workers United Bill. The bill is the first New York legislation to regulate agencies that place domestic workers.

JFREJ first joined the fight in fall of 2002, organizing employers of domestic workers, lobbying and protesting alongside Domestic Workers United to help overcome organized opposition from the agencies. We are thrilled with the passage of the bill, but the bill is only a starting point . . . we still have a long way to go to win dignity and fair working conditions for domestic workers.
