Mazel tov! We are thrilled to report that the Paid Sick Time Act has been approved by the New York City Council! Now, over a million New Yorkers will finally get paid sick days when they or their family members are in need of medical care. And thanks to the diligent work of many, domestic workers have been included in the Paid Sick Time Act! This is a major moment for not only New York, but also the domestic worker justice movement throughout the country!

We honor the leadership of City Council Member Gale Brewer, the Working Families Party, Make the Road New York, A Better Balance, the City Council’s Progressive Caucus, the diverse array of women leaders and activists throughout the city, labor unions (including SEIU 32BJ and SEIU 1199), and many more in championing this bill and fighting for its passage. And we honor the leadership of the 40+ New York City rabbis who supported this campaign through JFREJ’s letter to City Council Speaker Christine Quinn in support of the Paid Sick Time Act. (Click here for the story in The Forward).

Thank you for making this happen. JFREJ supporters like you and other New Yorkers have been calling for the need for Paid Sick Leave for workers in New York.  You have been instrumental in convincing this city’s leadership to support this important move towards greater economic justice for all.  There is still much to be done, and with your help, we will continue to fight for concrete changes in New Yorkers’ daily lives. Please click here to make a donation to JFREJ today to honor this victory for workers' rights and support more victories to come!

We celebrate this victory with you! Yasher koach!

With excitement,
