This year’s theme is On the Front Lines for Freedom and we are so pleased to honor and celebrate the work of activists whose courage and commitment inspires and challenges us all:

  • Jose Antonio Vargas, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist who put himself at significant personal risk earlier this year by writing in the New York Times Magazine about his experiences as an undocumented immigrant in order to raise awareness and highlight the activism surrounding this important issue.
  • United We Dream, who have organized a youth-led immigrant community movement advocating for equal access to higher education, galvanizing a national debate rooted in genuine grassroots activism and providing a voice for a silenced population.
  • Freedom Riders Reverend C. T. Vivian and Joan Pleune, who we are honored to celebrate on the 50th anniversary of the journey they took to challenge racist segregation in the South by putting their own bodies on the line, filling the jails, assembling in the face of violence, even risking their lives for the cause.

    • Join the Shalom Bayit: Justice for Domestic Workers Campaign for the Eldercare Dialogue Series. At each dialogue, we bring together communities of seniors and their families with communities of home care/elder care workers and domestic workers and their families because we believe quality jobs and quality care go hand in hand. We also uncover our shared values and aspirations for what elder care and elder care work should be, discuss strategies to address those challenges and lift up our values (e.g. quality jobs and quality care), and develop our base of workers, consumers, and families prepared and committed to participate in pilot worker and consumer training programs. In partnership with Domestic Workers United, Adhikaar, Damayan, the National Domestic Workers Alliance, and Congregation B'nai Jeshurun Aging in New York Hevra.
